This religious following was founded by James and Jane Wardeley who arrived in the United States from Manchester, England in 1774. Shakers are thought to have been developed from the Religious Society of Friends, or Quakers which was founded by the teachings of Ann Lee. Shaker are mostly known for their cultural contributions, such as music and furniture, because they rejected sexual relations which led to their decline in numbers.
