This chair is a model of careful construction, with exposed mortise joints on either side of its downward-arched end cap, and on the ends of the stretcher between the base trestles. The base has legs tapering upward, and two pairs of side slats in the same shape. Two broad slats that taper at the top are what make the Fremont chair distinct.
